When the skies are clear and you want to get the kids some exercise, consider taking the family to an outdoor skating rink. There are several to choose from in Northern Virginia, and some are offering special activities through February (indicated below).
A rink in one of the nicest settings, though, is located in DC: the outdoor ice skating rink in the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Gardens at 7th Street and Constitution Avenue.
