Happy Early Thanksgiving, everyone! Some great events on Saturday, but the forecast calls for rain on that day, about 40 percent.

Country Christmas Celebration
Sky Meadows State Park

Friday-Sunday 11 am-5 pm
Escape the holiday hustle and bustle and enjoy an old-fashioned country Christmas in the park. Tour Mount Bleak House, decorated to reflect local celebrations from the 18th through the 20th centuries. Join our entertainers as they play traditional carols. Buy unique gifts reflecting Northern Virginia’s agricultural heritage. Warm yourself by the fire in a log cabin as you enjoy homemade chili or soup, cornbread, desserts, hot cider and hot chocolate. Friday, Nov. 28

The Holidays are Here
Reston Town Center   11 am-7:30 pm FREE
Festivities for the family begin at 11 a.m. Starting at 12:30 p.m. through 4:30 p.m., visit and take photos with Santa next to M&S Grill. Donations benefit Reston Interfaith. At 6 p.m., watch as Santa and Mrs. Claus magically light up Reston Town Center and our holiday tree, then sing-along with the Reston Chorale and brass quintet. From 6:30-10 p.m., enjoy Horse Drawn Carriage Rides around the center for $5 per person, children 5 and under ride free. Pick up in front of Talbots on Market Street.  with the 18th Annual Reston Holiday Parade as it makes its way down Market Street featuring Macy’s style balloons, musical groups, dancers, antique cars, community groups and more. This one-of-a-kind parade hails the holiday season and welcomes the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus in a horse-drawn carriage.

Creature Feature
Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Annandale  1-1:30 pm
Find out where wild snakes and turtles spend the winter. Meet a black rat snake and an eastern box turtle. Reservations required. Limit 20. All ages are welcome. The cost is $2 per person. To reserve, call 703-941-1065.

The Thanksgiving Story
Frying Pan Farm Park, Herndon  11-11:40 am
Bring the family and holiday guests to the Visitor Center this lively, interactive retelling of the Thanksgiving Story. Glee Mania’s Sue Counoyer entertains and informs while engaging everyone. Afterwards, work off some of your Thanksgiving feast strolling in the park. Prepaid reservations required. This program is suited for ages three and older. The cost is $4 per person. Santa Arrives by Boat

Santa arrives by boat in Historic Occoquan; festivities include horse-drawn carriage rides. Presented by the Occoquan Merchants Association.

Tree Lighting Ceremony

Kick off the festive holiday season with our annual tree lighting ceremony. Get into the holiday spirit with a surprise early glimpse of Rudolph and Santa Clause with his elves. Enjoy the holiday décor and complimentary refreshments as you are serenaded by carolers ushering in the cheerful songs of the season.
