One of the reasons I love living in Northern Virginia is that you get the both of best worlds: proximity to both a vibrant urban metropolis that extends from NoVa to Baltimore and a countryside that boasts a wine growing region, cattle and horse ranches, and extensive farming. Today, Northern Virginia’s economy relies on a great degree to the technology industry, so few newcomers are aware of its farming heritage, such as the fact that the Dulles International Airport and surrounding area once was the heart of the region’s dairy farming industry.
All of which serves as the background on why there are so many great fall festivals in Northern Virginia. New to the Travel Center (see menu to the right) are two pages devoted to special fall events: Fall Harvest Festivals that go on for multiple days and offer two or more activities, and family-friendly Oktoberfest events in Northern Virginia.
I’m still working on confirming additional Fall Harvest Festivals, but if you know of one or Oktoberfest event that I should include, please e-mail me!
