Don’t forget the sales tax holiday!

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1 and ending at midnight on Sunday, Aug. 3, you can buy certain school supplies, clothing and footwear without paying Virginia sales tax. Here are some of the conditions that apply:

Each eligible school supply item must be priced at $20 or less.
Each eligible article of clothing and footwear must be priced at $100 or less.
Computers do not qualify as “school supplies.”
The item need not be intended for use in school, nor must the item actually be used in school activities to qualify for the school exemption.

For an all-inclusive list of school supplies as well as a list of clothing and footwear that are exempt, visit the state’s online Sales Tax Holiday Information Center.

  1. I had no idea about this! Thanks for posting and letting me know! Did you ever make it to the Loudon County Fair? We’re probably going Saturday since this past Sunday didn’t work out!

  2. They just started this last year, so a lot of people probably wouldn’t remember/know. We didn’t get to the fair either this weekend, but we may go on Thursday, when kids get in free until 4 p.m. (rides open at 1 p.m.)
