I love Paree in zee summer

Take a tour of France this summer without leaving the area: The National Gallery of Art launches its summer Stories in Art series on Sunday, July 13, with its Tour de France.

For children ages 4 to 7 with an adult companion, this free drop-in program is designed for individual families and is led by museum educators. Each program includes reading a children’s book, looking at one work of art in the galleries, and completing a simple hands-on activity. Space is limited to 70 children per session. There is no advance registration; participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-in for all summer stories will take place in the West Building Rotunda. Sign-in begins at 11 a.m. on Sundays and at 10 a.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, and will continue until all spaces are filled. Each program lasts about 45 minutes. For information, call (202) 789-3030.

Would you like to visit France this summer? Pack your imagination and travel to the National Gallery of Art! Explore scenes of France from its countryside to the bustling urban center of Paris through works of art in the French galleries. You’ll meet French artist in children’s books, investigate paintings, and make a souvenier to document each adventure. Each participant will receive a passport to the summer story series and a stamp for each program attended. At the end of the summer, children with three or more stamps will receive a prize!

The Cows Are Going to Paris

What happens when the cows grow tired of the pasture? They take a trip to Paris! Join them on this hilarious trip to the big city. Visit the Eiffel Tower, the Pont Neuf, and museums and cafés. Then, go sightseeing in the French galleries and look at a painting by Auguste Renoir.

Meet Claude Monet, explore paintings of the artist’s gardens, and learn about impressionism. Then, create a colorful work of art.

Bijou, Bonbon & Beau: The Kittens Who Danced for Degas
West Building Main Floor, Rotunda
Visit the Paris Opera and see the ballerinas who inspired Edgar Degas through this story of three mischievous kittens. After looking at Degas’ painting of dancers, participants will make their own ballet scene.

Camille and the Sunflowers: A Story about Vincent van Gogh

Listen to a story of the friendship between a young boy and artist Vincent van Gogh. Look at still life paintings and then make your own flowery work of art to take home.
