Free or cheap kid flicks

The weather’s been beautiful lately, but if you’re already wondering about what to do with the kids during the week, area movie theaters are starting some great programs.

On Tuesday, June 24, Regal Entertainment Group starts its Free Family Film Festival, featuring G and PG movies at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Click here for a schedule of the free movies to be shownat various Regal theaters in NoVa; each theater screens different movies each week.

On Wednesday, June 25, AMC Theatres launches it Summer Movie Camp at 10 a.m. Wednesdays with Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium. Pay $1 for admission and only $3 for a KidsPack meal that includes a drink, popcorn and snack. Here’s the rest of the lineup:

July 9: Alvin & The Chipmunks
July 16: Shrek The Third
July 23: Bee Movie
July 30: Surf’s Up
Aug. 6: TMNT

Also on Wednesday, June 25, National Amusements theaters starts Bookworm Wednesdays,  summer reading program that provides children over 6 years old free admission to a select children’s film every Wednesday when they present a book report. Children younger than 6 who accompany a participant get in free without a book report. The program is offered at the Fairfax Corner 14: Cinema De Lux and Centreville Multiplex Cinemas. Here’s the lineup:

July 9: Everyone’s Hero
July 16: Open Season
July 23: Happy Feet
July 30: Curious George
Aug. 6: Shrek 3

Finally, I added a new entry to my NoVa Kids at the Movies page: Tally Ho Theatre

The historic theater in downtown Leesburg debuts a new program, Kids Summer Cinema, featuring $1 admission for “classic” children’s films at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  The program started June 17, but I just found out about it. Here’s the lineup going forward:

June 24, 25: Ice Age
July 1, 2: Shrek
July 8, 9: Bee Movie
July 15, 16: Cat in the Hat
July 22, 23: Firehouse Dog
July 29, 30: Flipper
Aug. 5, 6: Spongebob Squarepants
Aug. 12, 13: Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium
Aug. 19, 20: Babe: Pig in the City
