Alexandria Waterfront Festival

This weekend, enoy a festival by the water at the 27th Alexandria Red Cross Waterfront Festival at Oronoco Bay Park, Oronoco & N. Union streets.

The 27th Alexandria Red Cross Waterfront Festival fundraiser offers historic ship tours, arts & crafts, rides, music, kid’s crafts and games, food, and exhibits. Cost is $15 for adults with one child free, $5 for each additional child. Take Metro to King or Braddock stations and ride the FREE shuttle. Or ride your bike – a bike valet will be available at the festival. Call for more info 703-299-2524.

Here’s what you can look forward to:

Amusement rides include the ever-popular Ferris Wheel sponsored by Mirant, the Kiddy Swing, Dino Bounce, Wave Thunder, Dizzy Dragon, The Scat, the ever-romantic Carousel and several more! Tickets are $20 for a sheet of 24, $1 for a single ticket; or $20 for an Unlimited Ride Wristband which is good from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday; sales end at 1 p.m. for the wristbands.

Children’s Harbor Tent
Located beneath the Family Health Pavilion – this craft and activity tent is full of fun crafts and activities for the little ones including a Father’s Day card making station and face painting. Parents must stay with children during visit. No fee.

Ocean in Motion
Visit the interactive traveling aquarium, Ocean in Motion at Gate One and Oronoco Street. You will journey from the seagrass beds of the Chesapeake Bay to the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. Touch tanks only open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday; 11a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. No fee.

Schooner Sultana
Make sure to visit the pier for other exhibits and a tour of the visiting tall ship Schooner Sultana from Chestertown, Maryland. You may see a couple of pirates out on the pier! Ship crew will take breaks as follows: Saturday 1-2 p.m. and 5-6 p.m. with tours ending at 8 p.m.; Sunday 2-3 p.m.  with tours ending at 6 p.m. No fee.

Penny Arcade
Visit the Commerce Bank booth and donate your spare change to the Alexandria Red Cross. Kids will love the lights and sounds – located next to the Children’s Harbor Tent!

Snap, Krackle and Pop!
On Sunday come see these famous Kellogg’s characters from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Freemasons of Northern Virginia
Parents! Stop by the Masons’ booth located on the footpath close to the Children’s Harbor Tent and receive a free VACHIP for your child – a comprehensive child ID program provided by the Virginia Freemasons that combines photo, fingerprinting, video and dental imprinting.
