Flights of Fancy” Stories for Children
National Air and Space Museum, National Mall Building
11 am   FREE
Join us for story time and an art activity. We’ll be reading Dogs in Space by Nancy Coffelt and creating post cards from space. Story and activity usually last about 20-30 minutes.

2008 XMKiDS Traveling RoadShow Concert
National Mall, Sylvan Theater Stage at the base of the Washington Monument  
Noon-4 pm    FREE
XM Radio’s cross-country broadcast tour to raise money and awareness for local Children’s Hospitals concludes in DC with a  free family concert that includes family-friendly performances by The Jimmies, Rhythm Child, Meredith Brooks and Lisa Loeb.  XMKiDS will broadcast the show live. Bring a blanket and a picnic!

Memorial Day Honor Gourd Dance
National Museum of the American Indian, Potomac Atrium     Noon-5 pm FREE
The Gourd Dance, which grew out of ceremonies associated with men’s societies of the Southern Plains, is now used by other tribal nations and intertribal clubs. In observance of Memorial Day, NMAI and the Black Creek Gourd Society of Window Rock, Arizona, invite staff members and visitors to join in the tradition of honoring warriors past and present.

Afghan Children’s Songbook
National Gallery of Art, East Building Concourse, Large Auditorium
4 pm  FREE
Vaheed Kaacemy and local Afghan children perform. Welcome and introductions by Shamim Jawad, wife of Afghan Ambassador to the United States and founder of Ayenda Foundation: The Afghan Children Initiative.
