East fetes West

May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, and I thought I’d preview a couple of DC events coming up next weekend:
The Asia Heritage Foundation is celebrating with the Fiesta Asia Street Fair in DC from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on May 17. Attractions include an open market filled with an assortment of Asian merchandise, live performances, Pan-Asian cuisine, interactive displays, Manga design competition, and much more.
Admission is free at the fair, which is going to be at Pennsylvania Avenue, NW between 3rd & 6th St. Highlights include:
12:30 p.m.- Lion Dance Showcase
1:30 p.m. – Opening Ceremony
2-3 p.m. – Cultural Parade
4-7 p.m. – Happy Hour & Band Craze
The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, meanwhile, is hosting the Seventh Annual Asian Pacific Heritage Music and Dance Performances.  Experience the performance traditions of Japan, Thailand and Cambodia with artists from the Shizumi Kodomo Dance Group (Japanese), Thai Folklore and Dance Wat Thai Washington, D.C. and the Cambodian American Heritage Dance Troupe. Performances will take place from 2-3:30 p.m. in the museum’s Baird Auditorium on the ground floor.
